White Year: Faced with Government Inaction, Students Announce Escalation

"White Year: Ministerial Failure or Government Plan?" This is the slogan of general medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy students during a protest in Rabat on Sunday. They denounce the persistent blockade of their demands and the lack of a positive response from the government.

For more than two years, and under the banner of the National Committee of Medical Students in Morocco (CNEM), these students have waged a peaceful and lawful struggle in line with the laws governing strikes and demonstrations, as well as Law 00-01 on higher education, the CNEM notes in a statement received by Hespress FR.

The Commission notes that their commitment is primarily academic, civilized, and independent of any political orientation, with priority given to the general interest of the nation and, in particular, to medical and pharmaceutical training.

The Boycott, the Fruit of Accumulated Frustrations

"The prolonged boycott since last December is not a rash decision, but the result of an accumulation of frustrations and a lack of real reforms. The continuation of this boycott does not mean that the students accept the white year, but reflects their unwavering belief in the legitimacy of their demands," the commission explains.

The significant delay in responding to the students' demands, which now exceeds 200 days, raises questions about the authorities' willingness to resolve this issue.

The Announced Escalation

Faced with this "irresponsible obstinacy of the ministry," the CNEM reaffirms its commitment to its representative organizations and their right to demand a better reform of the system through a civilized and peaceful struggle.

The CNEM has established a program of action in all medical and pharmaceutical faculties in the country, including rallies, marches, and a colloquium on rights on July 13.

Finally, the CNEM announces the organization of a large national march on July 16 in Rabat in front of Parliament under the slogan "March of Anger."
