The holy month of Ramadan is expected to take place either on April 2 or 3 in Morocco, according to the lunar calendar, while Moroccan astronomers anticipated that it will begin on Sunday, April 3.
The president of the Rabat Association for Astronomy, Abdelhafid Bani told Hespress in a statement that astronomical calculations confirm that the month of Chaaban will complete 30 days on Saturday, therefore, the first day of Ramadan 1443 will take place on Sunday, April 3.
“Seeing the crescent after sunset on Friday, Chaaban 29, corresponding to April 1st will not be possible, as the crescent will not be seen until after sunset on Saturday, Chaaban 30, corresponding to April 2,” he specified.
“The astronomical calculations in determining the start of the lunar months depend on identifying the position of the moon at the sunset moment on the first day of observing the crescent,” he explained.
“It is not a matter of estimations, but rather of accurate calculations to find out the position of the moon,” he added.
