Morocco’s electricity productions saw a 6.2% increase in October

Morocco's Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF) reported an increase of 6.2% in electrical energy production in the country during the first 10 months of 2020, up from 4.5% a year earlier.

DEPF attributed this positive trend to high private electricity production (5.5%), as well as a performance by the Moroccan Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) (10.1%).

A 3.9% increase in electrical energy production was also attributed to renewable energies, according to DEPF.

According to the DEPF's December economic report, Morocco's energy production has increased by 1.4% compared to its pre-COVID crisis level.

At the end of October, electricity consumption increased by 5.8% following an increase of 10.1% a month earlier and a decline of 2.8% during the previous year.

The statistics cover an increase in sales of "Very High, High, and Medium Voltage" energy.

Over the pre-crisis period, Moroccans consumed 2.8% more electrical energy. Due to these circumstances, the importation of electrical energy dropped by 8.2% at the end of October after an increase of 38.7% a year earlier, according to DEPF statistics.

At the same time, the volume of exported goods increased by 33.8% after decreasing by 59.7%; at the same time, net energy demand increased by 5.7% after declining by 2%.
