Pfizer partners with the Moroccan market for the manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccines

The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer announced on Tuesday that it is collaborating with Morocco to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines.

The pharmaceutical company held a digital meeting as of this morning, along with the Regional President of Pfizer, Patrick Van der Loo, and Vice President and Regional Medical Manager, Yasser El Dershaby.

The pharmaceutical company provides raw materials to several countries, including Morocco, according to the Regional President of Pfizer, Patrick Van der Loo in a response to Hespress EN's question, noting that Morocco and Pfizer have a collaboration program.

"Other than the Moroccan market, Pfizer continues to make sure that its COVID-19 products are delivered to several suppliers across the world efficiently and as soon as possible," the Regional President added in a response to Hespress EN's question, noting that the company deals with a number of partners, and continues to deliver COVID-19 products in high standards and quality.

Pfizer officials stated in the digital meeting that they aspire to deliver medicines to over 5.8 million patients across Africa and the Middle east in 2022.

In 2021, a total of 2.9 billion COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered to 170 countries across the globe, including 16 countries in the Middle East, and 39 countries in Africa.

As for the Omicron-specific vaccine, the company is still processing clinical trials, so that it can provide available data in terms of its efficacy.

The Vice President and Regional Medical Manager, Yasser El Dershaby said in the meeting, "Omicron is a stubborn variant, after showing efficacy only by 70% for the usual COVID-19 vaccine."

"Omicron affected even vaccinated people with 3 shots, which pushed the company to produce a specific vaccine to prevent its infection and boost protection," Pfizer's Vice President added.

Pfizer officials also stated the Pfizer antiviral drugs contribute efficacy in preventing hospitalization and deaths cases among COVID-19 patients, within a five-day treatment, twice a day.

Pfizer is a US-based pharmaceutical company founded in 1849, aiming to develop medicines and vaccines in order to prevent diseases among people.
