Scottish daily infections above 5,000 for first time
Scotland has recorded more than 5,000 Covid cases in the past 24 hours - the highest figure for a single day since the pandemic began.
The government figures show a rise of 698 from the previous day - which had been a record itself - taking the total to 5,021. There have also been five deaths recorded within 28 days of a positive test.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has acknowledged the "sharp rise" in cases - but notes the percentage testing positive is lower than the previous day, reflecting the fact more tests have been done.
"Vaccines still protecting against serious illness, but we all need to take care and act in a way that minimises risk of getting/spreading the virus," she adds.
Hospital admissions have risen in Scotland too, for the fifth day in a row.
