The state of emergency has been in effect since March 2020 as part of the proactive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Rabat - Morocco’s government council announced today, July 27, its decision to extend the state of emergency until September 10.
The measure is part of the country’s efforts and campaign to combat COVID-19 and its variants.
The announcement took place during the weekly meeting of the Government Council held in Rabat. Morocco’s government maintained the state of emergency due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation within the country.
The measure seeks to limit the spread of the pandemic and minimize the danger related to its variants.
In effect since March 2020, the state of emergency allows security services to take proactive measures in response to any development in the epidemiological situation.
Recently, Morocco recorded an alarming increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, reporting thousands of new COVID-19 cases daily.
Today, the Ministry of Health reported over 6,900 COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total to 588,448.
Morocco also recorded 27 related deaths over the past 24 hours.
The total death toll due to COVID-19 reached 9,638.
The number of recoveries increased to 549,116 after 2,690 patients recovered in the past 24 hours.
In response to the increase in both cases and deaths, the government and health officials urged citizens to take preventive measures seriously, calling on them to wear masks correctly in public, and respect social distance.
